What information we collect
When you contact us or place an order, we may collect:
- Your name
- Email address and/or phone number
- Delivery or collection details
- Order details (cake type, size, design requests, event date)
- Allergy and dietary requirement information — where you tell us about allergies or intolerances so we can prepare your order safely
Automatically, when you browse our site, we may collect (only with your consent, via cookies):
- Pages visited and time spent on site
- General device and browser information
- Approximate location (town/region level)
This is collected through Google Analytics. See our Cookie Policy for full details of every cookie we use and how to manage your preferences.
If you leave a comment on the site, WordPress may store your name, email address and website (if given) in a cookie to save your details for next time, if you choose that option.
Why we collect it, and our legal basis
| What we use it for | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Taking and fulfilling your order, including any allergy/dietary needs | Performance of a contract with you |
| Responding to enquiries | Legitimate interest (responding to you) |
| Understanding site traffic and improving the website | Your consent (cookies) |
| Keeping order/sales records for tax purposes | Legal obligation |
Allergy and dietary information is “special category data” under UK GDPR. We only ever use it to prepare your order safely and avoid cross-contamination, we don’t use it for any other purpose, and we only keep it as long as necessary to fulfil your order.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We may share it with:
- Google, via Google Analytics (anonymised/aggregated usage data), only if you’ve consented to analytics cookies
We do not currently use a courier/delivery service, an online payment processor, or a mailing list tool — all orders are arranged by collection or local delivery, and enquiries come through our website contact form (Jetpack Forms, part of Automattic/WordPress.com, which stores your submission on our site and emails it to us). We’ll update this notice if that changes.
How long we keep it
- Order and enquiry details: for as long as needed to complete your order, then deleted unless we need to keep records for tax purposes
- Financial/order records: 6 years, as required by HMRC
- Cookie consent choices: as set out in our Cookie Policy
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Ask what personal information we hold about you
- Ask us to correct or delete it
- Ask us to restrict or object to how we use it
- Withdraw consent at any time (e.g. by changing your cookie preferences)
- Complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) if you think we’ve mishandled your data — ico.org.uk
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at seaviewbakehouse@gmail.com.
Cookies
Our website uses cookies. Full details of what each cookie does, how long it lasts, and how to manage your preferences are in our Cookie Policy.
